Sake Spring

Near the back of Takino’o-jinja Shrine grounds is a freshwater spring. Sake brewers have great faith in the power of this spring, as it is said that any sake made using its water will be delicious.
Brewers gather at the spring inside the Futarasan-jinja Shrine Garden for two festivals each year. During the spring festival in May, they offer thanks and report to the deities on the state of the previous brewing season. The autumn festival in October occurs after the rice harvest at the beginning of the brewing season. At this time, the brewers pray for a safe and successful brewing season.
